I had the pleasure of working with Joe for a while at Passport. A terrific friend and co-worker. I will also miss our occasionally crossing paths when going by the house on the bike. Rest easy Joe.

I regret the fact that I haven't kept in touch with Joe, or many of the great friends from our youth... and I hope this might serve to remind anyone who sees it that years pass quickly, and it's all too easy to defer spending time with your friends to do whatever life seems to demand at the moment. He would have told me to ignore those demands, as much as possible, and he'd have been right.
Like probably everyone who knew him, I have many memories of Joe ranging from hilarious to just fond. I won't be the only one who had the blessing of hours chatting with him, about nothing, or everything - it didn't really matter what, since he was one of those spirits that put you at ease, and let you be yourself.
He deserves all the love he is getting, and more. I wish I could have told him that, but I am grateful he has reminded me, even in a tragedy like this, what things in life are worthwhile. All love to everyone who he cared for and cared for him... I hope you can all appreciate what he was and maybe can continue to be, in a way, for us all.

I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Joe at the passport office. Always finding the humour in any given situation. I owe my love for Tofino to Joe! He made me fall in love with that place before I even went to visit. It truly is a gem much like him!
Joe, wherever you are, I know you're shinning bright flipping everyone off right now! Rest in paradise my friend!
Kelly, Dakota & Tofino, I am truly sorry for your loss. Joe was a wonderful person. My thoughts are with your family.

I worked with Joe for a few years at the Passport Office. I enjoyed being around him - as did everyone else - and he made even the most tedious tasks easier to do just by being with him and listening to his stories. My favourite memory was unloading a shipment of passports with him in the vault and him telling me the story of proposing to Kelly. Joe could always make you laugh and he had such a great attitude. He was genuine and such a cool guy. I’m so deeply sorry to his family for their loss. I can’t imagine losing a family member with such a wonderful soul.

My condolences to the David family. Joe was such a kind soul. I had the pleasure of caring for Tofino in his early years. Joe also photographed my son at one month old. I will have these beautiful photos to cherish for a lifetime. May you all find comfort in the happy memories you share of him.

I worked with Joe at the passport office. He got along with everyone and he had a real zest for life He was the best photographer . I remember him skateboarding to work some days. We could always find him outside on his break smoking with the smokers. I remember him making his own baileys at Christmas. I remember his love of his boxer dogs. He often talked about his children how proud he was of them. I could see on his face how much he loved his wife Kelly. Joe was fun and enjoyed his life to the fullest. Every passport gathering Joe was always there. I knew Joe retired early with his back pain. I saw him at a retirement gathering and he looked to be in pain. I saw his Facebook posts about the terrible way the hospital ER treated him. I felt so bad for him. Joe was a great guy and he was well liked at his work. He will be missed. Joe is no longer suffering. May his soul rest in peace

Although I only met Joe briefly at Jay’s wedding 20 years ago, I remember a laugh and a love of life that is commonplace amongst the David family. I trust that this strong family bond will guide you all through this time of mourning; my family is thinking of you at this time.
To my good friend Jay and the rest of Joe’s family, please take good care of yourselves.

I lived with Joe in Toronto in early 2000 above a hairdressers near the Lansdowne subway station. It was a time before we had many responsibilities, and Sundays were for recovery. I was never too keen on his pet rat, as the apartment already had enough pests, but he kept it in his room, so it was fine. Joe was always up for darts, a pint, or a good time. He was an all-around stand-up guy and will be missed—my condolences.
