In my experience working with Roger, his personality was the farthest imaginable from the stereotypical "actuary's personality." He was a hoot and his bird calls/whistling even surfaced during meetings - out of the blue! In those days that was jaw-dropping and against all London Life meeting protocol - but I, for one loved it for that reason and the whistling was outstanding!
Judy my sincerest condolences. No doubt this last year without Roger has been most difficult for you. I has been my privilege to have worked with both you and Roger. Wishing you much continued strength. Sincerely, Helena Smeenk Pritchard

I'm so sorry to hear of Roger's passing. I remember his kind, gentle, and encouraging nature on the life-changing El Camino hike in 2012.....and, of course, I can't forget his spreadsheets that we all came to rely on for the tally of our day! My sincere sympathies to you Judy, and your family.

I first experienced Roger 49 years ago upon entering London Life as an actuarial coop student. Roger, along with the actuarial cohort, quickly lightened my expectation of a straight-laced professional business environment.
Everyone worked and studied hard (for the most part) interspersed with memorable social activities. Roger's unique vocal sound effects will echo forever in our minds.
Roger was always a kind, pleasant individual, enjoyed by all and will always be fondly remembered.
Sincere condolences to Judy and family

Dear Judy and family,
You have been very much in our thoughts over the last several weeks. (Unfortunately we were overhwhelmed with planning and executing of our daughter's wedding which prevented us from appropriately acknowledging until now). We were sorry to hear that Roger's life ended way too soon for such a vibrant man and indeed he did touch us all very deeply during his life. He was always interested in our lives and it has always been a pleasure to work with him and get to know you over dinners and choir gatherings.
Please know that you continue to be in our thoughts in the coming weeks and years.
Much love Sandra and Jim Roche

Dear Judy and Tom,
Ross and I are saddened to hear of the loss of Roger. We will miss his calm and dignified presence at our bridge club. We remember him most working away at the library collection and making it so useful to rookies and experts alike. He and Judy spent a great deal of time doing that. As we left after a game, they would be back there trying to make the library workable for everyone. We are so sorry for his loss.

Dear Judy, Jennifer and Tom. My sincerest condolences on your loss. My first memory of Roger was him being named the VP of Individual Insurance at London Life and we were all frightened that a “scary actuary” had been named as our leader. In reality, we had one of the most kindest, fairest and honorable leaders I have ever had. The world was a better place with Roger in it.

To the Jollife Family.
My wife and I have just recently moved backed to London and were saddened to hear of Roger's passing. I joined London Life in 1988 knowing absolutely nothing about insurance and was fortunate to work alongside Roger in the early part of my time there. He was always patient, good-humoured and willing to listen to other points of view. I learned a great deal from Roger much of which helped me in my career after London Life. However, my abiding memory of him was how he could always make me laugh with his very original vocabulary - uglicity is now deeply entrenched in our family's lexicon.

Dear Judy and family…we were so sad to hear about Roger’s passing. He was a true gentleman. I know how proud he was of his family. I had the pleasure of working with him for a few years at LHG. It appears that his bird calls were popular with many! He will be missed by all. Cherish those wonderful memories that you have created over the years. Thinking of all of you.

Judy and family, and Tom: My sincere condolences on your tremendous loss. It was a pleasure to work with Roger at London Life, where he was highly respected by all who encountered him.
It was also my great fortune to play fastball on the Electrons with Roger, aka ‘Moose’, as our catcher. Should an unwary opposing baserunner stray too far from their base, justice was often to befall them as a result of Moose’s strong and accurate arm. He could also bruise a baseball with his powerful bat.
When I conveyed the news of Roger’s ailment to my daughters, they remembered him instantly as that very friendly guy who always spoke to the children at the ball games and entertained them with his bird calls and whistles.
We have all lost a wonderful human being and a ray of sunshine. Al Otton

In addition to his skills as a mathematician, actuary, singer, bridge and poker player extraordinaire, and despite his gregarious style, Roger was always a modest, self-effacing and gracious gentleman. He was fiercely loyal to his family, his friends and associates, and the Company. In the day he was the glue that held together the London Life younger actuaries' social circle.
Best of All, Roger was always fun to be with.
To Jane, Roger was a kind and patient boss. To Jay, a close and trusted associate and friend. Our daughters Jill, Lee and Jennifer remember Roger with fondness. Although we have had only limited contacts for many years now, we will always cherish our memories of Roger.
To Judy and Jennifer, you were surely his perfect family. Our sincere condolences on his untimely loss.
With love,
Janey and Jay Jeffery

We were deeply saddened to hear of Roger's passing. He was a fine colleague and a good friend. The years of our "gourmet dinner" group get-togethers were always enhanced by the presence of Roger and Judy. Our now infrequent dinners will not be the same without Roger. We are truly sorry to lose him.

Hello Judy & Family: it has been many years since I first met Roger and the Jolliffe family. I grew up at 387 Clarke Sideroad and attended Clarke Road S.S. A mutual friend was Bob Logan. So many memories of those early years have come roaring back. Please accept my sincere condolences in your loss Judy.
