Obituary of Fred Wood

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Fred Wood surrounded by the love of his family at University Hospital on February 17, 2024 in his 92nd year.

Cherished husband and best friend of Shirley (Gracey) Wood for 66 treasured years.  Proud and loving Dad of Tom and Isabelle Wood and Karen and Ed Robb.  Special Buppa of Dawn Wood and Shane Beekhoo, Rob and Ashleigh Wood, Laura and Jim Dewan and Beth and Corey Jones.  Fred was blessed with 9 great grandchildren, Kiran and Avery Beekhoo, Parker, Quinn and Briar Wood, Bradley and Nicole Dewan and Leah and Ryan Jones.

Survived by his sister-in-law Velma Shaw, nephew Mark Shaw and Melissa Tuttle, niece Jill Shaw and Brad Chase and great niece Claire Chase, nephews Scott and Rob Gracey-Hodgins and their families.  He will be remembered and missed by cousins and many friends.

Predeceased by his parents Sam and Anna Wood and infant sister Ruth, brother-in-law Gerald Gracey (1974) wife Sandy, brother-in-law Jack Shaw (2021) and many Aunts and Uncles.

Fred was a member of the Glanworth IOOF Lodge #289 for 63 years, Noble Grand 1977-1978.  A director of Westminster Mutual Insurance Co. for 17 years, President in 1992.  A Member of St. Andrew’s Westminster United Church.

Fred was a dedicated farmer taking pride in his work and accomplishments.  Over the years he enjoyed curling, golfing, antique car shows, raising and showing his pigeons, going to London Knights’ games and following the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays.  Fred and Shirley enjoyed many nice cruises and trips with a special cruise celebrating their 50^th Anniversary to Hawaii. He enjoyed living a rural life and community friendships.  Some of his greatest joys were times spent with his family and following the children’s sports and activities.

The family would like to thank the staff at University Hospital for their care and compassion.

The family will be having a private service and interment at Dorchester Union Cemetery.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Sunday April 21, 2024 at the Ramada Inn, (Somerset Room) 817 Exeter Road, London, Ontario, from 1 - 4 p.m. with words of remembrance at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Sue Browning.  Friends and relatives are welcome to attend to share memories and condolences.
