Obituary of Al Shipley
Shipley- Alan of London passed away on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 peacefully, at the Victoria Campus, LHSC, at the age of 93. Preceded in 2002 by his wife Gwynneth (Anderson) Shipley, loved father of Alan D. Shipley and his wife Shelley Kaschak of Windsor. Proud grandfather of Samuel.
Alan was born December 6, 1930 in North Shields England, the son of the late Gertrude and Samuel Shipley. Alan achieved the National Certificate of Chemistry in 1949, the Graduate Certificate of Chemistry in 1951 and was honoured to be inducted as an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chemistry in 1956. Alan served in the Royal British Army from 1956 - 58 then returned to civilian life and worked as a chemist until his retirement in 1989.
Alan immigrated to Canada in 1960 and called London his home since 1967.
His true love was music and was an avid clarinet and saxophone player. He played in many bands including the Riverside Jazz Band, Bernica Jazz Group, Canadian legion victory branch 321, Reserve Army Band, 4th Battalion RCR Band, London Pops Concert Band, London Encore Concert Band, Clarinet Choir, Shriners Concert Band, and Sophisticated Swing. In addition, Alan created, developed and hosted londonbigbands.ca
As per Alans wishes cremation has taken place and private interment of ashes at a later date. A celebration of life to be announced. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Alan.
