Obituary of Marcia Elaine Lukings
Lukings, Marcia (nee: Mann)
After a brief battle with cancer, Marcia Elaine Lukings (Mann) “Murt” of Mount Brydges passed away peacefully at Victoria Campus, on Tuesday November 7, 2023 at the age of 66. Born on January 12, 1957, to parents Jack and Hazel Mann. Survived by her siblings Nancy (Jim) Brown, Jim (Chris) Mann, Brenda Smith, Tracy Castillo, and Michael Mann and predeceased by brother Jack Mann.
Marcia married her high school sweetheart, Brad Lukings on September 9th, 1978. Together, they enjoyed 45 years of marriage and family life. Marcia was the proud mother of Chad (Alecia) Lukings, Lisa (Gord) Jansen and Tamara (Rob) Walker. Murt spent many summers on the ball diamonds in Delaware and Parkhill playing slow pitch. She worked at various jobs throughout her life including pet grooming, nursing home care, and data entry. She had a soft spot for animals, giving loving homes to many species of pets including several dogs and cats, a parrot, a pot belly pig and a miniature goat. Her affection for animals didn’t stop at the domestic variety. She also rescued, rehabilitated, and released many baby racoons and squirrels that otherwise would not have survived.
She and Brad purchased a property on Lake Opasatica in 2005. Together, they worked hard to turn the camp into a special place where friends and family could spend time together during the summer months. She enjoyed the quiet summer mornings on the porch overlooking the lake with her coffee in hand and dogs by her side.
The role that gave her the most joy in life was that of grandmother. She will be missed dearly by her 8 grandchildren; Kieran and Daelen Lukings, Lily, Poppy and Oliver Jansen and Robbie, Rem and Henderson Walker. The kids will remember a grandmother whose love was limitless, who kept the fridge and cupboard stocked for their visits and would do anything for them. Friends, nieces and nephews will lovingly miss seeing her awaiting their arrival on the porch, ready to offer them a drink, a seat and a visit.
A celebration of life will be held at the Delaware Community Centre on Friday November 17th from 3 - 6pm. Donations in memory of Marcia can be made to Women's Rural Resource or Another Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation. On-line condolences are available through www.mcfarlane-roberts.ca. McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, London 519-652-2020 in care of arrangements.
