Obituary of Marjorie Elaine Quinney

Marjorie (nee: Houghton) Quinney

May 22, 1926 - July 14, 2022

Marjorie died in her own home on Thursday, July 14, 2022, in her 97th year.  Cherished daughter of the late Ira and Twila Houghton (nee Martin).  Beloved wife of late John F. Quinney, of 70 years.  Loving mother of Peggy (Celso) Teixeira, Rod (Brigitte) Quinney, Cara (George) Rudanycz, Janet (Fraser) Claridge.  Proud grandmother of Chris (Cathy) Teixeira, Marielle (Matt) Rosenfeld, Jordan (Melissa) Rudanycz, Rae Quinney (Josh Lumb), Caitlin (Isaac) Morgado, Amy Claridge (Braden Fisher), Bevan Rudanycz, and Everett Claridge (Ovina Chow).  A great grandmother of Quinn, Ryan, Neil, Izabella, and Mateo.  Dear sister of late Don (late Helen) Houghton, late Murray (Betty) Houghton, late Ila Doreen Houghton, Phyllis (late John) McNeil, late Lucille (late Gary) Grant, and Alvin (Heather) Houghton.  Predeceased by sisters-in-law: Marion (nee Quinney) Stephanie, Marjorie Quinney and Margaret Quinney.

Marjorie loved and was loved by each of her immediate and extended family and many friends.

Marjorie was born and raised in the St. Thomas area, with her six siblings, along with her aunt, Joy Martin, and cousin, Ewart Houghton.  She is a proud graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital nursing school, in London, and a graduate of Public Health from Western University.

She married John F. Quinney on June 25, 1949, and with their four children they lived through out Ontario: Chatham, Kitchener, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Burlington, Strathroy, and finally settling in London.  Marjorie was always an active volunteer in her community and church, and in 1989 she was recognized and awarded by the London Free Press for “People who make a difference, for the consideration you have shown others”.  She was also nominated for the Govern General’s Award in Volunteerism.  Marjorie also worked as a nurse with the VON (Victoria Order of Nurses).  Marjorie and John Quinney traveled through out the world, for 9 years, volunteering with Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW).

Marjorie and John established The Quinney Family Foundation in 1989, to support children and families in need around the world.  Marjorie's greatest joy, however, was her family and friends. She was the connector and communicator, keeping everyone informed and cared for. 

Visitation will be Saturday August 6, 2022, from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at Westview Baptist Church, 1000 Wonderland Rd. S. London, N6K 3S4, followed by Celebration of Marjorie’s life at 11:00 a.m.  Interment Ivan Cemetery, at Melville United Church, 24159 Nairn Rd., Ilderton, N0M 2A0, later that day.  Donations to Sleeping Children Around the World (www.scaw.org)Westview Baptist Church (westviewbaptist.ca) or Caring Partners Global (http://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/m/5046) (http://www.caringpartners.ca/)
