So very sorry that Peter has passed way too soon. Dan and I send our deepest condolences on the loss of a dear former colleague. Peter's unflappable calm on the assignment desk, and his behind-the-scenes assistance made many a day go smoothly. He was always kind and supportive to me and a rock steady presence who could be counted on no matter how stressful a day. Peter is fondly remembered. ~Colleen MacDonald and Dan McCutcheon

Hello Joan,
It is with the greatest sadness we read the unexpected news about Peter. It is a great loss for you, his family and friends. We have happy memories of the early days at CFPL-TV when we were all young and full of enthusiasm for capturng "the news" of the day. Later as Assignment Editor Peter was always the same - calm, friendly and helpful. And we remember your joyful wedding which was the beginning of a long and happy partnership. We hope that shared times and memories will bring you strength for today and comfort for the days ahead knowing how much your loved one meant to so many.
With sincere sympathy,
Nancy Johnson and Mark McCurdy

I was very saddened to hear of Peter's passing. I lived beside Peter on Inverness Ave and we were classmates at Riverside P.S.
I have very fond memories of playing golf together at Thames Valley Golf Course and building model planes. We had good times during the 60's which were truly HAPPY DAYS for us.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Peter during my communications career with Canada Post. Regardless of the matter at hand Peter's calming voice was always so great to hear at the other end of the phone. My condolences to his family/friends/work colleagues who were luck to live with/work with this gentleman of a gentleman. Tom Creech

From Ross and Eve Daily
Ross and Eve Daily
I worked every day with Peter for all of my 25 years with CFPL TV.
We spent several years together crawling Southwestern Ontario as cameraman and reporter
(Peter always drove). During our drive time,he was great company, and we discussed an endless list of
topics.
Then I had more years a few desks away from Peter the Assignment Editor
in the newsroom. In that job, he was a fixer, juggling schedules and soothing
time-pressed anxious reporters. In that crowded hectic newsroom, we NEVER heard
a cross word, never saw his unflappable calm flapped.
Peter had one the driest senses of humour I ever met;
he also had an unerring feel for accents and did the best darn CN diesel airhorn anywhere.
I smile every time I hear those fake ones coming though town.
Joan, Mrs. Ousey: I've remembered these times for 23 years,
and that's never going to stop.

When I was still new to the workings of a television newsroom, Peter's voice was the first I would hear every morning Monday to Friday. I was in the Sarnia bureau at the time and we'd hop on the phone (no video chat back then!) and discuss what story I'd cover that day. It was more than a year before I actually met him face to face!
A newsroom can be a chaotic environment, but Peter had such a calming presence. He was a true gentle-man. He will be missed. My deepest condolences Joan.

Dear Joan and family: I am so sorry for your loss of Peter. He was such a great man. My first memory is of Jim and I at London dog show, and seeing this large doggy standing up hugging your shoulders. You and Peter introduced us to the wonderful life of Beardies. We were so appreciative when Peter and yourself invited us to your home to show us how to groom a beardie. I think it was Max you had at the time, and Peter was so good and kind and loving handling him, and brushing endlessly (since I have learned) You got Jim and myself hooked on beardies....thank you so much for all your input as to how to handle them. I am now on my third Beardie.....after I lost Jim, I could not do without a companion...Peter was too young to go to heaven, as was Jim, but hopefully they will meet up and discuss old times (they have lots in common, as Jim used to like to assemble vintage cars, and of course talk about the doggies. I still have the 1963 Buick Rivera which Chris takes out of storage a few times a year. Peter, you did such a wonderful job of coverage for CFPL for so many years...Peter .we missed you when you retired. May God watch over you, and of course dear wife Joan. Love ,Kathy.
