Elgin Vessie

Elgin Vessie of Glanworth, passed peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, June 21, 2021 at the age of 88.  Elgin was born and raised near Durham, Ontario with 10 siblings.  He moved to the London area as a young man where he met and married Dorothy (Beattie), his beloved wife of 61 years who predeceased him in 2017.  Elgin was a caring and loving father to Carol (Scott) Barnes of Sarnia and Gordon Vessie of London.

Proud grandfather to Lyndsay Barnes (Harvey Trachsel) of Sarnia and Derek Barnes of Toronto.  Elgin had a special relationship with his nephew Wayne Duncan of Calgary.  He will be missed dearly by his surviving family:  Vera Beaton, Keith and Donna Vessie, Elva Vessie, Gale Vessie, Marie Beattie as well as many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his siblings:  Marjorie Irvin, Gordon, Ethyl Boyce, Melvin, Dearl, Norman, Hazel Duncan and Ben. 

Elgin was a gentle and caring man with a positive attitude.  He was a dedicated farmer who was very involved in soil and environmental conservation.  He was an active, longtime member of the Glanworth IOOF Lodge and was an avid Leaf fan who continued to be heartbroken with their playoff performance. 

Due to the pandemic, a private family service will be held at McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, Lambeth (519) 652-2020.  Reverend Sue Browning officiating.  Cremation with interment Christ Church Cemetery, Glanworth.  Donations to St. Andrew’s Westminster United Church, 2008 Glanworth Drive, London, ON N6N 1H4 and VON Middlesex-Elgin Community Corporation, 400-1151 Florence Street, London, ON N5W 2M7  gratefully acknowledged.  On-line condolences are available through www.mcfarlane-roberts.ca
