Obituary of Paul Douglas Merrett
Paul Douglas Merrett
It is with great sadness and much heartbreak that Sabrina has to announce the passing of her true love her husband Paul Douglas Merrett at the age of 67 on Friday, April 16, 2021, surrounded by the love of his family at the London University Hospital. Paul fought a hard battle more so in the past two years with his autoimmune disease and unfortunately in the end he lost that battle leaving a huge void in our lives.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sabrina of 45 years, and his devoted and loving children. His daughter Krisha, his son-in-law Ryan Anderson, his son Travis Merrett, and his daughter-in-law Nancy Merrett. Paul was a wonderful grandpa to his two grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Ella and Axl Anderson. Paul was the much loved son of the late Myme and the late Roy Merrett. He will be lovingly missed by his sister Judy and his brother-in-law Ward Hargreaves of Bolton ON.
Paul was the loved and cherished son-in-law to Lena Palmer and the late Eli Palmer. He was brother-in-law to the late Brian Palmer, Cheryle Palmer (Ric), Mark Palmer, Brad Palmer, Mary Jo Capriata and Roylene Bowden (Josh). Paul is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Paul’s words to his family was not to fret that he had a wonderful life. He enjoyed every minute of it. He worked and retired from Algoma Steel where he always said he was lucky to have worked with a good crew. Paul loved his family dearly and was proud of his two children. He enjoyed his camping trips, family vacations, and marrying into a large family., he enjoyed all the family gatherings that went with it. Paul was a good cook and took great pleasure in cooking for his family (made the best baked beans and chilli going). He was a man dedicated to those around him and man of integrity.
After retirement a new journey followed, a move to London to enjoy his grandchildren. While enjoying London, Paul always called Sault Ste. Marie his home.
Paul wanted to thank his close friends Bill Kirby, Bob Leistner and Dave Parniak for their friendship over the years. He often reminisced of the times shared.
As per Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. He will be taken back to his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, On to be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation.
You left this world bravely Paul and you will always be in our hearts forever. We love you. Till we meet again.
