Jean Alberta Perry (Blair) Simms
It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Simms of London announces her passing at McCormick Home on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late Wayne Simms (October 2014). Loving mother of Lee Anne Simms and Carolyn Derksen (Robert). Cherished aunt of Michael (Jane), David, Joel (Jeanette), Jay (Lisa), Martha (goddaughter), Heather (James) and will be sorrowfully missed by her many other family and friends. Jean was born in Almonte, Ontario March 1, 1932 to parents Les Levi Blair and Claire Violet Steen. Jean had a beloved older sister Lois (July 2012) who she adored.
Jean went to school in Pakenham, Ontario, attended Almonte High School and then Ottawa Teachers College. Jean and Wayne met in 1955 at a dance in Kingston after a Queen’s football game and were married in Napanee in the summer of 1956. Jean taught school after she graduated, then after having her daughters she stayed home and raised her children. After her girls were grown she returned to University, got a Bachelors of Arts Degree and resumed teaching until she was 65, then supply taught for a few more years. Jean loved music, swimming, Elvis and being an entertainer. She grew up tap dancing at various venues around Ontario. She played drums and loved telling stories of growing up in Pakenham, home of the 5 arch stone bridge. Jean completed many film projects throughout her life, including a series of documentaries about Canadian authors. She received many video production awards and film awards from McLean Hunter TV and the National Film Board.
Friends may visit at the McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, 2240 Wharncliffe Road South, Lambeth (519) 652-2020 Friday, May 20th from 7 … 9 pm. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 86 Baseline Road West, London, Ontario at 2:00 p.m. Interment Pakenham, Ontario.
