Obituary of Donald Ross Sadler

Don Sadler

Peacefully, at home, with his loving family around him, on Saturday, April 28th, 2018, Donald Ross Sadler of Lambeth, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Barbara (Squires) for almost 68 years. Devoted father of Debyn Ann, Jay and Margaret, Jeff and Judy Ann, and John and Jeannette. Loving Grandpa to Dwayne (Kimberley), Lori (Ron), Haley (Kevin), Shelby (Chris), Ivy (Dan), Cheyney (Ben), Carly (Klaus), Denby (Heather), Emily, J.D., Dan, and Kellie. Wonderful Great Grandpa to Cody, Zach, Owen, Joel, June, Nora, Myles, Alana, Vivian, Russell, Ardy, Leo, and Nash. Predeceased by siblings Marjorie (late Wayne Arnold) and Ken (late Brenda Stewart).  Brother-in-law of Bill Squires (Marian). Don leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Don was born on Orchardvale Farm on Southdale Road, London, Ontario, on June 21, 1929. He worked in the orchard with his family, then, at age 16, he started an apprenticeship in carpentry with McKay Cocker Construction in London. Don continued his career there, and eventually became head of the small projects division. Throughout his life, Don carried within him a great sense of adventure. He took his sons and their friends canoeing and camping in Algonquin, he skied, tried hang-gliding, flew kites, toured Europe on a motorcycle, played golf, hiked, biked, made backyard skating rinks, went birding, drove a Mustang, and rode a unicycle. He included Barb, in-laws, kids and grandkids in as many of these adventures as possible. He was an artist with every type of wood, a fine photographer, piano and banjo player, taxidermist and sports fan.  Don was a gentle man and an exceptional role model. The family will receive relatives and friends at McFarlane and Roberts Funeral Home, 2240 Wharncliffe Rd. S., London, Ontario, 519-652-2020, on Wednesday, May 2nd from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, May 3rd at 11 am at Lambeth United Church, 4268 Colonel Talbot Road, London, with Rev. Matthew Penny officiating. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date. Donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation 4500 Blake Rd., #117, London, Ont. N6L 1G5 or the Lambeth United Church would be appreciated.  Online condolences are available at www.mcfarlane-roberts.ca
