Obituary of Norman Lorne McLennan

Norman Lorne McLennan Peacefully at Victoria Hospital on Thursday, November 12, 2015, N. Lorne McLennan of London and formerly of Lambeth in his 94th year. Beloved husband of Ethel (MacAlpine). Dear father of Ron (Donna), Larry (Theresa) and Tim (Debbie). He will be sadly missed by seven grandchildren Laurie, (Alan), Lisa (Mike), Todd (Daniela), Kari (Dave), Darcy, Darren (Lindsay) and Scott and six great-grandchildren Emily, Reilly, Ella, Alyssa, Lilah and Ellie. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Maria (McCready) McLennan; his brothers Jack (Melba), Cal (Betty Lou) and his infant sister. After graduating from high school at Florence, Ontario, Lorne went to Chatham Vocational to take a course in cabinetry and made several pieces of furniture when he was sent to Galt Aircraft where he built and repaired the aircraft for war. He was working on the aircraft out at Test Flight. He repaired incoming planes from the war and those were sent back overseas from Dorval, Montreal, when it was discontinued after discovery of a spy informing the Germans of departure. Some of the airplanes he worked on were the Lancasters, Spitfires and Mosquitos (commonly called Musquitas). That airplane had to come in to land at 100 m.p.h. Then the war ended and the Central Aircraft building was closed and he went on construction of wartime houses, later working with Tamblyn and Pritchard housing then on his own building Family rooms, etc. He built their house, garage and shop. Lorne and Ethel were modern square dancers for over thirty-five years. Friends may visit at the McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, 2240 Wharncliffe Road, South, Lambeth 519-652-2020 on Sunday from 1- 4 pm and on Monday, November 16, 2015 from 10 until the celebration of Lorne’s life begins at 11:00 am. Reverend Matthew Penny officiating. Cremation with interment Rickard Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Children’s Health Foundation or the Lambeth United Church gratefully acknowledged.
