Helen Millar

Obituary of Helen Millar

Millar – Helen (née Steczyszyn), 98, of Lambeth (London, Ontario), passed away peacefully on December 22nd, 2023, at Westmount Gardens. She was born on August 10th, 1925, in Czer Jany, Poland, to Mykieta (Mike) and Pelagia (Polly Pendileuk) Steczyszyn.
Helen met her beloved husband, Peter Millar, in Toronto, and they married in Winnipeg on June 12th, 1947, at Holy Ghost Church. They moved to Sudbury, where they welcomed their first two sons, Greg and Dennis. In 1954, they relocated to London, and had two more sons, Bill and Peter. Helen and Peter bought a plot of land from the Zabehaylos and started Millar Berry Farms in 1961. They built a house on the farm in 1967 and sold their house in London to officially become farmers. Helen continued to work on the farm into her 90’s, until health issues required her to move into a long-term care home.
Helen was an exceptional home-maker, raising four boys, and making the best borscht, cabbage rolls, perogies, and apple pie. She also outworked most everyone on the farm, from picking berries to helping in the market. She was an avid card player, always having the best luck. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called her Baba. She also loved to sing.
Helen is survived by her sons Greg, Bill (Sylvia), and Peter (Erna, and children Luke, Janna, and Amelia); her daughter-in-law Brenda (Dennis); her grandchildren Jeremiah (Kathleen), Daryl (Jason), Matt, Caleb (Grace), Joshua (Susan) and her great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Ronan, Link, Raelynn, Reggie, and Rowan. She is predeceased by her husband Peter; her son Dennis; her daughter-in-law Debbie (Peter); her grandaughter Sherri (Peter);  her siblings Anne, Mary, Jeanette, John, and Olga; and her parents Mike and Polly.

Visitation will be held at McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home 2240 Wharncliffe Rd., S Lambeth on Wednesday, December 27, 11am-1pm followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.  officiated by Pastor Steve Kerr.
