Died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of March 10, 2025 in her 95th year at Ashwood Manor London ON.
She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Edward John Ramsey (April 2013), and her parents Ross and Ilene Griffith (Jones), sister Barbara Rutter (Frank), and brother Paul Griffith.
Shirley leaves behind 9 children, Edward Ramsey Jr. (Judy), David Ramsey (Amalie), Constance Ramsey-Venturin (Remo), Patricia Cornish (Roger), Jennifer Blazak (Gary), Katherine Walker (predeceased Dennis), Beverly Penny (Jason), James Ramsey (Jessica) and Scott Ramsey (Teri).
She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, (predeceased Crystal Carver, Derek Taylor, Tara Ramsey, Netalia Ramsey), and 34 Great grandchildren and 3 Great, Great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Shirley Griffith.
Shirley was a wonderful wife to Edward and loving mother to her nine children and their friends and extended family. Her family was her life. Shirley was a devoted member of Littlewood United Church always volunteering for many administrative duties and meals and making many life-long and loving friends.
She was a consummate baker, baking into her 90s always giving of herself to her family and friends. We couldn’t wait for our Christmas goody bags with all our favourite things inside! She was our matriarch, hosting many family dinners and get-togethers over the years.
We are shining lights today because of her grace and love. Shirley was a giver.
Shirley was born in Windsor, Ontario, then moved to Lambeth, Ontario and in 1956, Shirley and Edward and 4 children moved from Byron to a property owned by her father, in Littlewood, now a part of rural Lambeth in London. She is the 3rd generation granddaughter of Lambeth founder Jeremiah Schram a United Empire Loyalist, and Veteran of the War of 1812.
Shirley met her husband Edward at a dance while he was enlisted in the Army and stationed in London ON, and the rest is history. She loved to paint, knit, crochet, needle point and read. We have many original heirlooms from her hobbies.
She lived life well, was loved by many and will be profoundly missed. The family would like to thank everyone at Ashwood Manor, in Lambeth/London ON, for their support over the past year when Shirley's health was in decline.
