Obituary of Roy Simonds

Simonds-Roy of London passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, July 17, 2026, at University Hospital, at the age of 91.

Dearly loved husband of Joan (nee Townsend) Simonds, and proud father of Glen and his wife, Natalie Simonds, and Wayne and his wife, Marcelle Simonds. Loved grandfather of Mary (Edin), Rachael (Charissa), William (Kailey), and great-grandfather of Aubrey, Zoey, and Isabelle.

Roy was born on April 11, 1935, in England, the son of the late Percy and Helen (nee Bell) Simonds. He was an upholsterer by trade but was also blessed with the ability to master any task he took on, whether it was the building of his and Joan's first house, a boat for the family, or the restoration of an old car. Roy was also an incredibly gifted artist, wooden model-boat builder, carpenter, miniature-train enthusiast, and photographer.

A devoted husband for 70 years, he and Joan were the definition of soulmates, doing everything together, yet never tiring of each other's company. As a father of two boys, he was loving, caring and inspirational, always willing to explain how to do something, offer suggestions, and lend a helping hand.

He enriched the lives of those whom he met, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A private service will take place later this year. McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home 2240 Wharncliffe Rd S. Lambeth, entrusted with the arrangements.
