Lots of laughs, New Years Eves together, games, music, dancing, road trips, vacations and adventures together with Mike and Ann, Jen, Shane, Jeremy and Terry for so many years. The memories come back so quickly since we heard that Mike has passed.
I remember when I was pregnant with Terry that oven cleaner made me feel sick. The Kaszas came to visit and Mike cleaned the oven then made a Mike style yummy supper followed with Ann’s delicious desserts.
When Jeremy was in hospital with his convulsions, knowing that Mike would stop up to see him when he was done work to say hi was all it took to make him happy and reason to laugh.
Our condolences to Jen, Shane and your families as you go through this difficult time.

Wow. I'm truly saddened to hear of Mike's passing.
Shane was my best bud growing up, so I got to see Mike at his best in a lot of ways. He was truly a fun dad.
Our families used to take week-long summer vacations together in run-down little cabins at Wasaga beach where Mike broke out some of his best stuff. Every year we could count on Mike performing at least a few wrestling moves on all us kids in Nottawasaga Bay. I had more than my fair share of suplex-injected water up my nose. One time we all went swimming in a Thuderstorm! (I said he was a fun Dad, not a safety-minded dad). Our first summer there, around the campfire Mike told the completely made up ghost story of 'Cheif Wasaga'. He would dance around the fire then silently chant to scare me. It still freaks me out to think about it.
Mike used to save hise old shirts for when our family came over so he could tear it off himself Hulk Hogan style for th kids. He had the best collection of 45 RPM records. We would build whole nights of family hang-outs around Mike blasting music as he created mix tapes for us. He would time the meat he was BBQing by how many beers he would drink. He also poured beer on a lot of it.
Once, while using the bathroom at their house I started reading a plaque on the wall. It was the footsteps poem (where a man sees a single pair of footprints in the sand he's walked through, thinking he was left alone by jesus who was otherwise walking with him, only to learn Jesus was actually carrying him) and I only got through the first half, scared off for thinking it was a ghost story. All the grown-ups thought it was so funny, including Mike. But then Mike was the one to go get the poem and explain it to me.
Then there was the time my parents and I were away on a trip and my older brother Jeremy was home alone. Jeremy looked up to Mike SO much, Mike was second only to my Dad for Jeremy's hero worship. Jeremy ended up in severe pain with a kidney stone. Mike was the one jeremy called. Mike came over right away to find Jeremy in the fetal position. He took jeremy to the hospital and stuck with him until we got back.
We all grew apart as I grew older for so many reasons. I think I always expected to bump into him again one day, and I'd share my life with him in snap shots, and he would not miss the opportunity to scandalize my kids with all the classic ways of Mike Kasza.
I'm sorry we won't get to share that moment.
Shane and Jennifer, may your greif be made lighter in knowing that he is remembered well. I invite all the dads who knew Mike to go throw a kid in a lake in his memory.

I only learned of Mike’s passing today, May 25th. I so enjoyed reading your story and it is a true example of who he really was. I worked with Mike at the hospital and throughly enjoyed his personality and his antics. He is one of the very few I have missed, amongst hundreds.
Very sorry for the families loss. I know their lives were enriched with their dad and grandfather.

As a friend of Jonathan and Jen's who regularly visited from Toronto in the 2000's, Mike made me feel like part of the family. He'd always pick me up from the Greyhound station in London and drive me over to the house. He'd delight me with his many jokes and antedoctes. One of my favorite memories is when he made a sign with my name (incorrectly spelled mind you) and held it up high when I got off the bus. My very own private VIP driver. I'll miss you Mike.
Condolences to the whole family. Sending you my love.
