MacKenzie- Elizabeth Carlisle “Betty“, of London, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at University Hospital at the age of 72. Dearly loved mother of Valerie Hembruff and Brad MacKenzie (Jessie Sutton). Proud grandmother of Mattaya and Mya. Betty was born December 16, 1952 in Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Ian and Mona (Armstrong) MacKenzie. She is fondly remembered by her wonderful friends Carol Conner, Joyce and Steve Mark, Becky Woolvet, Barbara Kingsley, Ann Beattie, Monica Mitchell, Anne Veenkamp, and many other precious friends Betty considered to be chosen family.

Betty grew up in Scarborough, Ontario and raised her children in London, Ontario. Betty was a devout Christian, a homemaker, and stay at home mother. She was a talented crafter, sewing and crocheting clothing and gifts she sold at craft sales. She supported the Pajama Program, collecting pajamas and necessities for abused women and children. Betty was a beautiful soprano singer and enjoyed singing in her church choir.

Throughout her life Betty was always putting others first and taking care of everyone who surrounded her, regardless of her own situation. She was always there with support, encouragement, advice and help. Her relationships with family and friends were what she valued most in this world. Betty always remembered the little and big things important to those she loved; she never forgot birthdays, special moments in someone's life, or to simply check in with a loved one after a concerning medical test. Somehow sharing our joy with her doubled it, and sharing our sadness and fears halved them. 

She was a very kind, compassionate and loving person who could help others going through difficult times as she experienced many sorrows during her lifetime. She connected with people from near and far away places, keeping in touch with friends for years. Betty was a wise and loving woman who will be missed by many. There is comfort in knowing her light and her legacy live on through the lives of those she has touched and changed.

A celebration of Betty's life will be announced. Cremation has taken place.
