It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Anne Grindrod (nee Toft) of London and formerly of Vineland, at the Parkwood Institute in London on Tuesday December 23, 2025, at the age of 86. Dearly beloved wife of the late Roy Grindrod (2020). Loving and proud mother of Andrew and his wife Michelle Grindrod of London, Christopher Grindrod of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Catherine and her husband Trevor Bischop of London. She will live on in the fond memories of her four grandchildren, Natalie, Jon, Tyler and Jordyn. She will also be remembered by her long-time dear friend Joan Howard, cherished sister-in-law Irene Brown, and her nieces Jillian and Joanna, all of England.
Anne was born on February 16, 1939, in Birmingham England, the daughter of the late Harry and Alice (Riley) Toft. Anne and Roy were married in 1965 and then emigrated from England two weeks later. They first settled in Sarnia, Ontario and then moved to London in 1968. Anne and Roy enjoyed many years of retirement together, 18 of those years in Vineland, Ontario where they formed long lasting friendships with neighbors at Victoria Shores. Anne was trained in biochemistry and developed a love for medical research throughout her career. Anne worked at Western University in the Department of Family Medicine for 15 years prior to her retirement.
At home, Anne was a dedicated and proud mom to her three children. She led her family with a calm and compassionate nature providing support and sound advice whenever her family needed it. Anne and Roy worked to provide a life for their children that they did not have growing up in Northern England during war time. Her children are forever grateful, and hold close the wonderful memories of many family vacations, celebrations and growing up in a loving and affectionate home. Anne loved sports, especially soccer and tennis. She was happiest watching her children and grandchildren playing sports, and her competitive nature meant that she was always hoping for a win. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow up and playing a special part in their lives, being a loving and devoted Grandma. The happy memories they have will live on in their hearts forever.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the physicians and nurses at the Parkwood Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care and support during Anne’s stay. The family would also like to thank Anne’s family physician Dr. Deborah Norrie for her unwavering support and exceptional care provided.
